A closed stove is much more effective & efficient than open one.
I saw this statement referring to wood stoves and although likely true due to the amount of air which is drawn in with the flue gases it seems rather a bold statement.
Although the best open compared with best closed fire likely the closed will win hands down but what when best open is compared with rather poor closed fire?
In my younger days we had coal and coke and to burn coke needed doors on the fire which could be opened when burning coal. When running with doors open the fire seemed a lot hotter.
OK Mica windows not the glass used today and coal not wood but with good dampers one still has control and one gets far more radiant heat.
