Hi

I have removed several large bushes and extended a wall and now need to turf the area (see pic below). I need some advice on what is the best way to go about this please.

Also, where do the experts recommend buying turf from? Is the turf at B&Q any good?

Look forward to your suggestions. Hopefully planning on starting the preperation afternoon.

YOu need to rotvate the area and depending on the condition of you soil add some sharp sand, soil conditioner or compost.

Then it'll all need leveled out and compacted and finish off with some good topsoil. Make sure it's well watered and the turf will need a good watering every day

I wouldn't get turf from b&q as it can sit there for days drying out. There's bound to be a specialised turf place near you that stores turf in a fridge once they have it deleived to them

b+q get their turf delivered on a thursday where i live, i got 24 square yards at £2.40p a yard and they gave me 15% off because it was 2 days before their new delivery. the turf looked a little off colour when first laid but rejuvenated after 4 days. looks perfect now after only a week. i dug weeded raked and then leveled out the soil before flattening with an 8x4 sheet of ply, i then sprinkled a big bag of compost over the bed and dampened down before laying the turf. so far so good :D

I've also been considering turfing the terrible excuse for grass in my new garden, B&Q is just round the corner so it's good to know it can look that good :)

its like a putting green now after the bit of rain and sunshine we had! "happy chappy"
i've cut it once already and its only been down 10 days (probably not supposed to so soon) and fed it with that stuff from b+q that makes the grass go really green.....it works a treat after only 3 days :P .

i tried sowing seeds last september but unless the seed bed is prepared spot on and the seeds evenly spread and you can keep the birds from feasting on it and my 17 year old mutt with highly concentrated pee off it.......its far easier on the heart and soul to use turf.

Rolawn sell good quality turf. Probably more expensive than B&Q, but cut and delivered to order. I've used them a couple of times and can't fault it.
