How dangerous would this REALLY be? There's no route to earth through the plastic pool liner. Yeah so the water could be at 100-240 volts, but they wouldn't feel it with no route to earth.

I'm studying for C&G right now and I have to say that my thoughts were the same - that theoretically at least unless there was a route to earth of course they wouldn't form part of a circuit and so no PD would exist (or I think to be more precise, they would be at equal potential to the phase conductor so no PD exists between them/ water and phase)...

Please do correct me as you see fit of course!

It looks like an earthed European socket strip, which if connected through an RCD would trip it. AND it would be leaking a fair few amps L-N anyway.

Ah, OK so I had taken that to be a 2-pin un-earthed strip...

hmm.. so what happens if it was a conventional UK strip (assuming no RCD for this purpose) .. Earth is then provided for.. and they guys in the pool would then form a (albeit indirect) part of the circuit I think.

Presumably then the degree to which this is a problem (this being relative of course!) relateS directly to the the impedence of the path (water) then ? i.e. if they were standing in a freshwater lake sized swimming pool on the far side of the shore in this scenario they would be better off than being next to it in a small paddling pool of saltwater...
