A warning about gas

I found a soft spot of concrete in the kitchen and uncovered this when I dug it out:

Got the vacuume on it and I was somewhat stunned by this:

That is not a root, that is a gas pipe. Thankfully ours have been run in copper and this is un-used. But before anyone thinks about using that pipe, consider they may not actually be there under the floor.
