Could stronger charges have been brought, or are these realistically the maximum?

They'll look at what they can prove in court and what charges are appropriate and what would be considered frivolous or easily dismissed.

ABH is a good fit. The injuries were more than assault. Sadly it's a category B1 at best. I would hope for something around 24 months.

GBH for a broken nose is also viable, particularly given a broken nose is usually visible permanently. But maybe the female plod's nose wasn't broken.

Could maybe push for category A1 as assault against the women, but since she was plod, it's going to be hard. Aggravating factor is the assault agains police officer. 2 years plus would be good, max is 5 years.
