ABS Cylinder that supports key-in unlock?

I’ve ordered a second hand cylinder from eBay. So gonna have a play.

I think I’m going to have to drill that little grub screw type nubbin. At least I’m hoping that’s all it needs, for the knob to come off…

Might be a ball bearing, and rather hard to drill; could try drilling away the surrounding knob material. That might also need some patience if it's brass. Dremel might work well there..

Yeah, I’m gonna get hacky/brutal with this second hand cylinder I’ve ordered to see if I can get an understanding.

I don’t think it’s a BB as the pin/nubbin is so small.

As long as the lock externally functions and no anti tamper is triggered, I’m hoping I can get pretty nasty with the internal side and cobble together a solution.

Second hand test lock took forever to arrive, but 15 minutes of brutality gets the job done.

I tried drilling the pin and didn't get very far. The metal pin is much tougher than the brass knob, so the bit kept slipping and wanting to drill the brass. So out came the Dremel, as you can see. Went a bit brutalist on it, but it was soft so easy to hack at.

This was a test lock purely to get an understanding of IF it's possible to do something with the existing knob (i.e.. Replace it) and also ensure that the lock mechanism functions once it's been hacked at. Next stop is to 3D print something that will allow my smart lock to function with it - something like this.

You still need to push it in though…..

Are you going to 3d print some sort of cam?

For what purpose? My thumb turns don’t need pushing in at all… Infact, I’m not sure what that function is/was supposed to do?

I think I read earlier versions needed to be pushed in to turn?

Hate going ‘cold’ on a project, but had a bit of a mare with bits and bobs.

Ordered an Aqara U200 from the states which took 2 weeks to arrive, and then arrived ‘locked to the old account holder’, spoke to Aqara support who took a week to reply and informed me there’s no way to un-link it due to policy/security. So was useless.

Considered buying another Aqara, but then opted for a Yale Linus L2, that arrived last week, and here we are at the weekend…

Modified my real cylinder and fitted the Yale. I remain keyed alike, so the wife is happy-ish. She hates the Yale lock, but she doesn’t have to change her ways. The only way she’s impacted is the knob is different, and, well… I’m sure she’s often wanted a different knob.
