We have an Accenta 8, and all we would like to do is either replace the keypad, or clean the existing contacts up.

Can I open up the keypad, without the alarm going off?

I understand that if I disconnect the keypad, without entering the "engineering code", then the alarm will go off. We're not sure if the engineering code is default (9999) or whether it's been changed. Is there a way of us verifying whether it has been changed or not? Like, can we press "P" and enter 9999 without the alarm going off?

I had to move the control panel when decorating recently which involved opening up the panel.
It triggered the tamper switch but entering the set/unset code stopped it.
I think it went off a number of time and then locked but reassembling the panel and entering the code sorted it out

The manual gives you your options for defaulting.

But you can follow the instructions and see if default eng code works.
