I am shortly having carpet fitted and in one small place I need to access underfloor occasionally.
Is there any such thing as a premade trap that a piece of matching carpet can be inserted? I have asked the carpet suppliers but they cannot suggest anything.
TIA

Hi maltaron, how goes it? If the trap door was effectively just a square of floor you lift out could you not take the edges of the carpet and staple them tight against the edges of the opening and the same with the trap door?

I'd be much more inclined to roll back the carpet over the trap when (if) infrequent access was needed. For example a floor safe.

If the carpet is being stretched into place when it is fitted, leave it as long as you can to settle into shape, as it will tend to pull away from the walls if you release it from the edge grippers.

If you cut a hole in a carpet it needs the edges bound (as for samples) or it will fray. An ordinary machine can bind the edges of the infill, but not the edges of a hole.

Threshold strip would do but would look awful.

There are carpetable traps made for cable access in offices, but they don't look very good.

Thanks for the replies, Nice to here from you again Freddie, Looks like I will return to my original idea of rolling back the carpet when necessary as its at the end of a short corridor (outside of the airing cupboard if you remember that Freddie)
