Accrington Brick

Hi,
I\\\'ve got a 1930s detached house and its quite a cold house. I thought about Cavity insulation but my neighbour said that he had it done but it had caused damp in his house.

He said that the damp was caused due to the fact the the house is made of Accrington Brick and that this particular brick is non-porous and doesn\\\'t allow the cavity to breath which is why the damp was forming on the inside.

If anybody has had Cavity Wall Insulation done on a RedBrick property then it may be good to get their feedback.

Does anybody know any special types of insulation which could be used? He used Mineral Wool as the insulating material.

I'd have thought airbricks allow the cavity to breathe and the insulation itself is preventing adequate ventilation. My neighbour just had his cavity walls insulated but he say's it's too soon to notice any internal temp. increase.

I have a 1940's house built with accrington brick & had (Mineral Wool) cavity wall insulation injected in approximately 4 years ago ...... No damp problems what so ever, in fact no problems what so ever ....... I noticed a change in temps almost immediately

Other than the thro wall (To house interior) the chaps bunged up all the air bricks with sillicone.

All I can say is my installation has turned out hunky dorey ...... I suppose some may say that the air bricks shouldn't of been blocked off ....... Me I say mines fine ......... I guess you need to talk to your chosen contractor & ask
