adding ceiling fans

I installed two ceiling fans in the family room from my low voltage light circuits. Now the fans won\\\'didn't turn off from the wall switch. Did I do something wrong in the wiring or did the old low-voltage swithching system fail? I didn\\\'t do anything with the wall switches.

The trouble is they're probably so anal about liability if they say anything other than "engage a qualified electrician"...
