I have recently tried to add a new double rad into a one-pipe system but the new rad does not get hot at all, anybody know why?

Have you connected the Flow and Return corectly ?
i.e. Flow connrxtion to the TOP of one end,
Return from BOTTOM of opposite end
i.e. Flow connrxtion to the TOP of one end,
Return from BOTTOM of opposite end
As above and have you fitted a trv by any chance?
