I have a fused spur in the airing cupboard that runs the timing for the immersion but now need to add a shower pump - can i take a fused spur from the spur I does it have to come direct from the ring main ?

Not really, whilst not necessarily dangerous, it's generally not seen as good practice to connect anything else to the same circuit as an immersion heater due to it's heavy load. The IEE (Institute of Electrical Engineers) "On-site guide" recommends that water heaters of over 15 litres capacity should have their own dedicated circuit.

Properties that were built with immersion heaters from new will have a dedicated circuit for it. Anything else found connected to the same circuit will be later addition.

A fused spur from the ring is fine.
