I'm hoping someone can give me some advice.

Due to a stalled building project we have no heating downstairs, but a brand spanking new Valliant combi boiler and rads upstairs. I need to extend the heating to fit 2 new radiators downstairs. My plan is to extend the flow and return pipes, drop them down the wall and add the new radiators.

Straight forward enough you say, but I need to check a few things. The existing pipe work is copper. Due to the financial situation (plus hoping this is short term), I would like to use plastic piping, would this be a problem? Also do I stick with 15mm or can I use a 10mm? I have noticed there are a few different types of plastic pipe from different manufacturers, which is best suited to central heating systems?

I'm sure there are more questions, but I don't want to push my luck.

Thanks

Rob

If you are dropping down from 22mm copper upstairs then I would use 15mm plastic. Make sure its suitable for ch systems (barrier etc). There is nothing wrong with plastic as a permanent fix providing it's installed correctly.
Avoid 10mm if possible as flow would be restricted.

Thanks for the advice, hopefully I will have it all sorted in the next week. There is one more question though, what protector should i use in the system, there seem to be numerous types of fernox so I'm getting confused.

The system is a 2 year old Valient combi boiler with same age pipe work and radiators. I will be adding plastic pipe and new radiators to it.

Oh I just realised while compiling my order for parts from screwfix, Can I use the plastic pipe direct into the radiator (With the pipe insert needed for joints), or do i need to specific fitting?

Thanks again.
