Apologies if this has been asked before but I am aware that regulations change often so want to check.

I am wanting to add a socket into a bedroom, I will add it into the existing ring mains rather than spur it off. The wiring is currently using the old colour cables so the new socket will be connected using new cable so the colours will differ.

If this something I am allowed to do myself or does the work need to be certified.

Thanks

You are allowed to DIY, as long as you can do the work safely.

If you have mixed colours you should put a warning notice on the CU.

It does not need notifying.

The problem though is testing, as this requires equipment and knowledge which most DIYers won't have.
