Need some advice before winter and the addition to the family

2 bed mid terrace, open plan kitchen and lounge

fully pumped central heating system via Thorn Olympic wall hung boiler (yes i know its old lol)

The thermostat is in the living room.

the living room is always nice and warm, but the hallway and upstairs is always colder (always have the door in the living room shut).

Therefore my plan to improve things is to move the thermostat to the hallway and fit 5 TRV's to all rooms apart from the hallway.

should help to maintain a better temperature in each room?

Shouldn't be a problem providing the rest of your radiators are sized correctly especially if the other rooms don't seem to be reaching temperature. Depending on the size of your kitchen and lounge it is probably not the best place to have the room stat anyway with the added heat from the kitchen causing the room stat to be satisfied to early.

So, to add TRV

I am confident to drain the system and put the TRV's on the radiators.

But to refill the system, have not done this type of thing for about 15 years.

Whats the process?

Reverse of how you drained it.

Make sure any valves are in the manual posistion
Close off drain cock
Make sure all rad air vents are closed and any other vents
Start filling from f/e tank
Adding inhibitor as it is filling
when system is full vent all rads starting from the downstairs
vent any other vents and pump
obviously checking for leaks
check level in f/e tank.
