Hi All

Im a bit stuck on what the limit is adding additional radiators from the main, i assume the main is 22mm and there is one radiator that already comes off this at the end that i want to tap into and add a further three "500x1200" to heat a conservatory, would this be wise or should i extend the main? i will only gain around 2 metres if i do this before i hit the first of the three radiators.

Thanks all

Wayne

Doesnt matter what you do Wayne as the Conservatory will still be like an icebox and you are not supposed to use central heating to heat them now anyway.

The Energy Efficiancy regulations stipulate its a no no.

In real terms if you want 3 rads that size you will have to work out how many rads come of the 22mm pipe between the boiler and where you are and even then you will only run 2 of them at a squeeze from 15mm pipe.
The proper calculations are all in black and white, but I always use my own personal rule of thumb which has always worked for me over the many many years :)

Thanks for the reply stan, why cant you heat with rads now? i know a few people who have them and they say the same as you about being an ice box and a waste for that matter but as they only have the one i thought three would make a difference, any other recomendations for heating a conservatory without breaking the bank? if there is such a thing that is

Thanks again

Sorry stan there is just the one rad coming off the main before it runs upstairs from what i can see

Well by far the cheapest way is to get a decent Oil filled rad or 2 if its that big.
The other way which I have and find it very good is Airconditioning with heat and cool. However you did say without breaking the bank!
Cant beat being able to sit in there all weathers hot or cold and having it at whatever temperature you want.

Regarding your second response if you have one rad coming off 22mm pipes then yes the 22mm should handle another 3 rads, but remember I havent seen the job.

It a case of pennys to heaven rather than from. the biggest draw back with rads is even if you can heat it u dont want to be heating it it all the time the heatings on. consider fitting a zone valve with a stat or timer or programable stat to avoid heating times u may not use the room.

Thanks bab, i have decided on two oil filled rads that have the timers/thermostat on which will be suitable for that reason, its just to take the edge away at night, cheaper too

Thanks
