On a swing up and over 1990s garage door there are these two 'side bits' metal strips either side hex screwed to the inside of the garage door frame. They form a type of seal with the garage door (when closed). The problem is these metal bits poke sideways inward by about 4cm so could scrape the car when it's parked inside.
The door when fully closed is in vertical orientation so these metal strips do not support door weight. Only in high winds would these metal bits block wind. So the metal strips only block wind and provide no structural support to the door at all.
See attached pic
Can I 1) Move the metal strips so that they poke out less, 2) Put metal glue + thin foam over the edges so they don't scrape cars/people, 3) Remove completely or 4) Screw the metal bits to the door edge and not the door frame (so would move out of the way when door is open); without reducing door integrity?
Thanks
