Hi,
I need a bit of advice please. I've read tonnes of posts on screed ratios etc, but I'm still unsure what the right thing to do is.
Basically, our boiler return pipe 'split' after a flush - looks like due to perished copper even though it was wrapped in fibre. Anyway, that's all fixed, and the pipe is wrapped in tape so good to fill back up.
The pipe is sat in the channel that was dug out from the screed. I've read some posts that the best thing to do is to fill it with vermiculite over the pipe, then the rest with a screen mixture of either 4:1 or 5:1 with a tiny bit of water.
I realise the pipe has to have room to expand etc. I'm just concerned whether the vermiculite would be enough to support the pipe with the screed on top (probably only about 2cm thick). It's going to have engineered flooring over the top anyway, but I want to get it right. I'm struggling to find a builder but I've 2 young kids and concerned if I don't get it filled back up they'll injure themselves, or step and bend the pipe (don't want that - the mess the first time around has proved very expensive!).
Thanks for any advice. The channel incidentally is about 2-3 metres long, and in some parts the gap under the pipe where they dug out is about 10mm. Channel is in a V shape, about 10cm across at the top.
Cheers,
Tony
