Hello, looking for some advice

I recently bought a property and have noticed a crack in a plaster wall, with a slight bulge on either side of the crack. Photos. attached

Is this the sign of something serious? Or just shoddy work done previously? Anything I should be immediately worried about?

Thanks for any advice

Chop out and replaster the cracked area, unless its a random joint crack in plasterboard. Get the light fixed as well.

What is a "plaster wall?"

A wall made of nothing but plaster?

Surely not.

Hard to say - pin up a poster on the wall and tell me how easy it is to do so...

Plasterboard dot and dab I'd guess.
Cracked a long joint.
If im correct I'd fill void behind plasterboard along crack with foam to firm up, then fill and make good crack.

Get digging to see what's under for better advise
