Hi there,

Hope you can help me out with a bit of advice please?

I have an MK Logic 2 Gang light switch in my kitchen which I am trying to fit a specialist timing device to. Basically its a controller that sits alongside the MK switch panel and it turns the light on and off at specific timed intervals.

The timer device has 2 red wires to use. The instructions say I should connect one of the wires (on the timer) to the live terminal of the MK switch. This seems to be labeled as COM on the MK switch, and already has a red wire inserted into it. Is that correct?

Then the other red wire (on the timer) should be connected to the MK switch output. The options I have are either L1 or L2 (L1 already has a yellow wire in it). Is it possible for you to tell me which terminal is the output please?

Cheers,
Dave

For reference purposes the light switch set-up is like this. It is a 2 gang light switch. A red wire comes from the wall and is connected to the left hand COM. Then a separate red wire piggy-backs off the left COM and goes to the right COM for the other light switch. A different red wire then goes from the right hand L1 back into the wall. The only other wire connected is a yellow one which is in the left hand L1. Both L2's are free. I want to connect the timing device to the left switch. Hope that all makes sense!?

what you need to do is connect it accross the switch, so one will go to comm and the other will go to L1 so the timer over-rides the switch.

and finally someone who actually gives all the info + more that we need to help them

Hi Andrew,

Thanks very much for the reply. Just to clarify then...

I connect one red wire the left COM and the other red wire to the left hand L1?

As I only want the timing device to work with the left switch, I should completely ignore the right hand wiring, right?

Cheers,
Dave

If anyone else is interested, the timing device is a Select Electrical Ranger 1 Programmable Timer Module for light switches and sockets.

Dave,

I know you're connecting it to a light, but if you ever do the same with a socket just make sure anything you plug into it is going to be safe to switch on at any random time. An electric fire face-down on a sofa, for example, would be a Bad Thing! :)

Cheers,

Howard
