Hi, this is my 1st post (what a great site!)

We have landed ourselves a (potentially!) nice 30's semi which has been mutilated by it's previous owners.

I need to put a doorway back in the original position and this will involve knocking out the bricked-up and (badly) plastered original doorway.

While I understand the basics - can anyone point me in the direction of the proper process to use, i.e. making sure that the frame etc will fit?

This is a load bearing wall but as it had a doorway in originally, I guess it's safe to start knocking holes in?

Any advice would be gratefully welcome! Cheers! :D

first thing is check that the original lintel is still in place.

you will need an opening gap of roughly 32 inches wide in which to house an internal door casing for a standard 2'-6" door. height will need to be roughly 80 inches to the lintel from finished floor.
