Hi
We are building an extension (rear) to 5mx6m. My builder building the external wall with engineering bricks, is that ok for long term? When I ask him, he said it’s much solid.
Could you please someone advice as I’m clueless?

Thank you

What do the plans say should be used?

Planning permission tends to require you to use bricks that match the house.

Normally engineering bricks are only used down by the ground and up to the bottom of the doors, and then you use better looking bricks for the main walls up to the roof level.

Don't let your builder use the cheapest bricks he can find, make him use the nice bricks.

Engineering bricks ok up to dpc as other say, facing bricks above dpc.
You need samples of the proposed facing bricks to see what they look like and submit them to Planning if necessary before building.

Engineers are about 30p each. Facing bricks 60p to 100p. He's pulling a fast one!
