Hi,

Currently having my windows and doors replaced, approaching the end of the job and there’s significant damage been done to the plaster work around some of the windows and both doors.

The fitter has claimed that any repair work to put this right will cost extra and isn’t part of the original quote? Is this standard?

Thanks in advance for any help.

LincolnM, good evening.

Can I suggest you go back to the paperwork that this firm has asked you to sign and see what it states about internal trim to the new units? And check out what the web site has as regards the trim.

Must admit, when I have had windows fitted, there was always a section about the type of internal trim that would go with the new window / door, the trims on offer were [as I recall] MDF / Plastic / Faced Ply / Solid softwood or hardwood.

I find some difficulty in understanding this Companies attitude in that damage to the window / door surround must happen if for no other reason than to get access to the fixings for the original windows and allow access to securely fix the new units?

Is this a "Local" or "National" Company, or as a part of a larger Contract to adapt and alter your property?

That's poor! As a matter of course we always repair damaged reveals..either with trims or plaster , depending on customers requirement. To me it's just good practice to repair

Its called 'making good', so if making good is extra what is to stop them not even bothering sealing up never mind the repair THAT THEY CAUSED!

Check quote for making good any damage, even if it didn't mention it one would assume its pretty obvious making good would be part of the contract, any sane person would think that

This was my thoughts also. I’ve reluctantly come to a compromise in order to get the job done but I’m holding all further payments until I’m completely satisfied.

Thank you for the replies.
