AEG washing machine not filling ... help pls!

Have a 10 yr old AEG Lavamat washing machine. Worked perfectly but has suddenly stopped filling on main wash cycle - it hums, produces a couple of clicks, but just won't fill with water.

If I run a pre wash cycle pre the main, this works perfectly - fills with water, washes, spins, empties etc.

So I'm guessing the water feed is OK - what's good to check next and any clues of how to check (water valve solenoid?)

if the machine is currently working on some cycles but not others then a possible faulty timer / program dial

if it hums check hot supply poss turned off .
