I am looking for a good high gain fm aerial to pick up a frequency in a fringe area. Any recommendations?

Also looking for a splitter to offer 2 aerials points into 1 input point in a fm tuner.

You need to look up details on your transmitter. For example Bluebell Hill until change over needs a Black colour coded wide band aerial for FM tv and after change over a Brown:E will do the job. What are you wanting to pick up.

What do you mean by an "fm aerial" I use the same aerial vertical for FM and horizontal for SSB.

I prefer the twin driven elements of a HB9CV but many still used the Yagi and for mobile use the J pole or Slim Jim works well.

Who or what do you listen to? I found Suffolk was very good with isotropic propagation and sporadic E allowing some real distance contacts on 2 meter very different to here in Wales. But the same conditions which allowed me to talk to Scandinavia also completely messed up local TV and VHF domestic radio.

But some people do seem to word things odd my TV licence said apparatus for receiving colour TV transmissions when I went to school that mean the aerial but I am sure if a painted my TV aerial black and white I would not get away with a black and white licence?

We i have been approached by a company called hospedia (ex patientline) in ipswich hospital and they cannot pick up radio suffolk from the mannintree transmitter, they have a tuner in a cabinet fed from an excisting aerial which will happily pick up town 102 but radio suffolk is nothing just noice.

You will likely need a Yagi beam. No longer in contact with people in that area Leastion Radio Club would likely help. I can picture shop to north of Ipswich owned by radio ham who may be able to tell you more but BBC web site does not seem to give location.

Guy called David Buggs is who you need in that area. I see 103.9 and 104.6 A directional aerial like a Yagi will receive a week signal but there has to be a signal. It is rather flat there so would not think there will be a problem under normal times but because of the way the land lies you do have problems with isotropic weather and there will be some days what ever the aerial you can't receive any signal. I worked for a time in Sizewell. However with no information as to where and what power the transmitter is how big you will need is unknown.

I would go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/suffolk/local_radio/ and send the BBC an email as I am sure they will advise on size of aerial and to if vertical or horizontally polarized.

A half wave di-pole will need to lengths of metal 2 foot 3.4 inches sorry my aerial book is in garage behind a load of gear so can't work it out any better at moment.
