After i've removed artex....

I don't know where people have got this idea of mixing pva into paint from. It's something I would strongly advise against.

The problem with pva is that it will sort of act as a barrier against any moisture. This can cause the paint to peal off. Also you just don't know how the paint will react to it.
 
The pva forms a barrier between paint and substrate so you effectively paint the pva not the wall
