Hi
We are currently getting a extension built and are up to dpc. The concrete for the solid floor is getting poured tomorrow. The bricky has put air bricks in and bc has said they need telescopic vents for him to sign it off. Is this correct with the floor being solid and not a suspended floor.

Thanks in advance

The architect has cavity ventilator on plans which I've just asked him and he said it should be weep vents. I didn't even think about it till he said the bc had asked for telescopic vents which will lead to no where as not a suspended floor. Am I best getting them changed or will it be alright

Who has the BCO asked for telescopic vents? The architect or you or the builder? Surely BC know it's not a suspended floor? I would leave them as vents it's not like much if anything ever drains out of the weep holes. Why didn't the bricky mention something rather than just blindly fitting pointless air bricks? Smash a brick over the architects head after you've done the same with the bricky, perhaps the BCO needs the same treatment too.

He's asked the bricky who has asked me to.order the telescopic vents. That was what had me thinking about it and questioning why we had the airbricks in. So you reckon be alright to leave them. Can't understand why bco has said that like.

What is supposed to be being vented by the air bricks?

Further, what being vented now as they are, and what will be being vented if the air is ducted by the telescopes?

Its just ventilator the cavity currently. The architect has replied to me saying it should be weep vents but if bco has asked for the telescopic then they may be required but they won't go to anywhere so seems pointless

Cavities have not been ventilated since the 1950's

Perhaps your inspector is confused?

Or does your main house have timber floors, and air needs to be ducted under the extension slab?

The existing house is solid floor too. I'll ring the bco tomorrow to see his thought process thanks for help

How many clowns does it take to make a circus!

(My sympathies are with you)
