When we moved in, we discovered that the hot water tank was leaking (thanks previous owners!)

Tank has now been replaced, and everything is hunky dory, warm when it should be etc, but we keep getting air in the hot water.

been 3 weeks since the job now, should any air introduced have been purged by now?

Is there some kind of sequence to bleed it out, other than just using the system?

How could it be introduced? we have no evidence of any leaks anywhere now.

Many thanks

Is it a vented cylinder or unvented?

Air getting sucked in through vent probably caused by a restriction in the pipe leading from the storage tank to the cylinder.
To prove I am on the right track put a stop end on the vent pipe and your problem will stop. Dont be tempted to leave it there though. That pipe is there for safety.
Before you do that though check out the most obvious cause which is the gatevalve. Make sure it is FULLY OPEN.
