try lighting the gas you vent 
if it burns its hydrogen
then you have electrolytic corrosion going on (serious)

its caused by chemichal (yes i know) reaction beetween dissimalar metals put a cleanser in the system for a couple of days when you flush it out add inhibitor should sort it
sentinel x 300 /inhibitor x 100
just had to walk down three flights of stairs (cant remember the numbers)
