Air India plane crash

The final report looks set to be delayed further. If they can’t pinpoint technical reasons for the accident, it doesn’t mean that it must be human error/deliberate. It just means the cause can’t be definitively established. Doesn’t it?

Is it time for the black box recorder to include a digital cctv feed?

Its a good question and a big debate. Pilots generally oppose it as they see it leading to a blame culture rather than a safety culture. And invasion of privacy beyond what is reasonable. However a video feed with storage from the last 30 mins at any one time would be sensible wouldnt it?

A lot of what a Pilot does is monitored and controlled. 1000s of sensors, CCTV would be their witness not necessarily prosecutor.

Wow.

In the meantime, lots still to find out about Air India 171. Just because a fault causing both fuel switches to go hasn't happened before doesn't mean it wasn't a 'first accident' and Boeing is actually responsible. Waiting to hear more, especially on who moved the switches and why

He was on the jump seat. The adrenaline rush/exciting/scary bits are take off and landing with long periods with little to do in between which require the maintenance of concentration. A bit like being an anaesthetist. If pilots don’t want cctv that’s fine with me. Would you want cctv in the office?

One theory is that an electrical fault caused the engine management system to re boot thus automatically cutting of the fuel ( electrically not mechanically)

Fairly sure there was CCTV in all the offices I worked at
