hello there, I live in an old house and suffer with a recurring airlock in the 22mm hot feed to the downstairs loo. The problem pipe is at present partly innacessable and I have to bleed off the air once a week in a roof void using the bleed screw on a one way valve. Can I fit a B and Q automatic air vent at the highest point, or shall I start removing the brickwork.

I'd say you are better off sorting out the problem, than acting on the symptom. Where does the air come from?

proberbly due to hot water draw off pipe in the loft or somthing, running at an angle to cause an air lock.you need to find the source of the problem,to even put an aav at it.

Don`t fit anyone`s auto air vent on it  . I`m sitting beneath a bowed ceiling caused by aav on central heating ( caused by last owner who didn`t claim on their insurance) That`s what aav `s are for not domestic water. Take out the valve and manual vent and run a vent pipe up+ above the feed tank. BUT be prepared for a spluttery supply @ the tap.as air may be drawn in. So it`s spluttery tap or continue going into roof

thanks Nige F

I was not sure if AAV could be used on domestic hot water. Now I know. Cannot run vent pipe as this would have to be routed through the innacessible area. Once in there I can hopefully re-order the pipe run so that there is no chance of an air lock. So now I will have to penetrate the sealed off area. Thanks for your help
