Air stuck in pump

Hi all

My pump regularly seems to get air trapped in it and you can hear it rattling around inside. It gradually stops us receiving hot water which of course causes us a few issues as winter approaches.

One of my friends who is a plumber normally comes over and lets the air out by loosening a valve and gradually releasing the air out. He's out of the country for a couple of months so I'm a little stuck. I have took a photo of the set up and I think it's the valve on the left of the photo - can anyone confirm please?

You may also need to take action to let water in to replace the air you're letting out. Do you know how many tanks you have in the loft?

If the picture you posted is the right way up then the pump should not be facing downwards as it will trap air, how high is the feed and expansion tank above the pump ? (assuming its not a sealed system)

I will have a look when I get in tonight for tanks in the loft.

Sorry the picture is on it's side so to speak. It needs rotated 90 degrees clockwise.

Feed and expansion tank is around about 10 feet above the pump.

As posts above + Using a large flat screwdriver, carefully open the big screw on the front of the pump and wait until water starts coming out.
