Last year a plumber installed a bleed valve in the airing cupboard. Slightly unscrewing the top used to release air till water came out. Hunky dory!
This winter I find I can not only unscrew, but totally remove the top with no air, no water, no nothing!

Has it got blocked or is this a safety feature when there's no air to come out?

if you have completely removed it and no air or water comes out you need to (refit it first!!!) then go up the loft and check the small tank, it will prob be empty, or the pipe feeding the system is blocked

Many thanks. And the award in this case goes to.......Chris!

Removed cap and poked down with a pin and water gushed out. A quick screw-on of the cap to stop the flow and I'm assuming all is OK again.

Did'nt see Burnerman's post till after so didn't check for a washer - Now that it's working, if I removed the cap again to check the washer I'd have water all over I guess.

edit: open vented system.
