Hey does stoping and starting the pump on a vented central heating system help to clear the air from the system?

say the pipework around boiler, pump is airlocked after refill run it on 3
then move switch to between 2/3 and pump stops then to 3 again.
but move the speed knob every few secs or so so it rocks the water
and you'll find it'll shift most airlocks.

one more question I'm putting a new radiator in up stairs, to do this Am I best of draining the whole system, or just the up stairs rads. Which way wil best avoid airlocks when filling back up.

so you'll be altering pipes ?

then i would drain to below the upstairs rads/pipework.

yes am altering the pipework, would you recommend just draing the upstairs rads and pipework. Not the whole of the system. Thanks for ur help.

will it be less likely to airlock when filling back up if done this way as oppose to a total drain down?

depends on the system etc all are different some are prone to airlocks some aren't.
