altering black waste pipe

Working a very old house and under the kicthen sink the waste pipe is black, im just altering the waste pipework and my question is, is that old black waste pipe compatible with the white marley pipe fittings (size wise ect). Whats the difference

Depends how old it is. Waste pipe has been metric for donkeys years and available in black, white, grey and brown from all the major manufacturers. Colour makes no difference to sizing.

How accessible is it? Normally pipe is marked with makers name, size, BS number.
