I need to replace a shower for a bath and will have to extend the existing waste pipe and fit a new waste. i heard that not all manufacturers waste pipes are compatible due to variations in diameter. i am worried that i wont be able to put new fittings on the old pipe and it cannot be easily replaced in it's entirety. my question is whether most compression fittings will work with any old manufacturer's waste pipe?

Solvent weld fittings are slightly larger than the conventional push fit types, so a plastic compression fitting is used to join them.
Irrespective of manufacturer, I've never had any problems with these.
John :)
