I have dismantled and cleaned my thermostatic valve on the shower. The instructions now say to use silicone grease on the o-rings when re-assembling. My research tells me that a pot of silicone grease is very expensive for this small job - is there anything else I can use that I may have already?
Alternative to Silicone grease?

Difficult to say as we don't know what you have (I know you have sorted it) perhaps a dab of lard.
