    Hi,

I need to replace the alternator on my 1999 Golf MK 4. ITs a 1.8 GTI.

Whilst driving last week all the electrics on the dash died for 15 seconds and then came back. ABout 20min later the car died. RAC confirmed my suspicion that the alternator has died.

How easy is it to replace alternator? What tools will I need? Does anyone have a guide for doing this job?

    Thanks,
    Brian

gsf will get hold of the alternators, but will be on an exchange basis.
Good local motor factors will probably be around the same money as gsf.

Easy enough to change, but have a good look at how the alternator belt goes on as think they're 'serpentine' belts on the mk4 (runs 4 or 5 different pulleys)
