Apart from the likes of guardian/supalite and others, that use a lightweight aluminium frame to support their tiling system, I cant seem to find anywhere that supplies just the frame.

Anyone know if these can be bought, so I can have my own roof constructed, rather than using one of their kits?? Im sure buying the deck ply, insulation, membrane and tiles myself would work out cheaper.

I was also amazed at how much some of these companies charge for installing these systems. I found someone who could supply the supalite kit, which included everything apart from the plasterboard for the interior finish. They quoted £2500. So I then called up one of the supply & fit companies, who quoted £8000! Really??? £5.5k for 2 days labour.. I dont think so! Im sure when I spoke with guardian at some point they wanted about the same!

So if I can get hold of the aluminium frame, I could then get my own builder/roofer to fit it, or even fit one of the kits... I expect this would be much cheaper for a couple of days labour rather than buying one from one of these ripoff, sorry, I mean "specialist" companies.

ive fitted similar roofs from eurocell their system is called equinox and I too enquired about just getting the aluminium frame but not a chance they can make a big mark up on these kits branch managers get good incentives for selling them as these replacement roofs now come under building regs I am doing my next one out of timber frame instead of aluminium with everything else the same should shave a lot off the price

I stumbled upon eurocell on Friday and have asked for a couple of quotes so be interesting to see how much they want to charge to fit. In my head £250 a day per man and 2 men for 2 days should be more than enough but somehow I don't think so!

I have asked another place that makes their own kit if they would just sell the frame and waiting to hear back. I fear timber would be too heavy. I can't believe no one is just flogging the frames!

as an update, just built a new sunroom, instead of using equinox roof I made my own with timber 6x2 then bought insulation, membrane, plywood and tapco composite slates, insulated plasterboard inside and skimmed. Exact same look as equinox, same u-values but no danger of cold transfer because of timber frame, passed building control but was a new build, so footings were checked and required reinforced windows and corner posts but worked out about £1300 cheaper than buying the kit from eurocell (it was a gable end sunroom)

Offpage but I thought people would like to know that it was da Mekon who invented the Internet, mobile phones and web cams, all in one clunky kind of wristwatch he was never without.
Poor man, all that mental stuff gave him an enormous green, or was it yellow, head (sort of ET without the innocence) & required a kind of floating mobility chair for him to knock on about causing no end of trouble to Dan Dare & Digby.

The Mekon & his wicked crew are still up for it in all good comic shops. Watch the sky.
