I was kidnapped today, and held hostage long enough to look at a large ducted hot air Afos boiler, heated by an old Nu Way ZL2 burner. This unit had apparently always been a grumpy starter, especially when the air is damp outside. I put this down to the length of the (asbestos 9") flue and the fact that the burner has no 'purge' facility - i.e the moment the thing is switched on, ignition starts for 5 sec and then the pump / fan starts running. The pump is a Danfoss RSA 40 and the motor spins at 1425 rpm.
So....is it worth trying to fit a pump with solenoid valve and a new controller? My own thoughts are to skip it and fit a new Sterling burner or similar.
Any comments, anyone? Cheers John :)

I have fitted Riello burners on these with good results.

Is it worth the cost of a new burner,as it could leak any day?

I have also removed the old boiler unit and used a camray 5 to replace it when leaking. Oil consumption was much improved.

Water to air heat exchangers can be repaired at a vehicle radiator type place at a price.

Funny enough Terry I have a couple of Riello Mectron's in the garage...I think I'll see how well they work in yonder Afos and see if the punters are interested.
Anyway, the skip beckons for the ZL2.
Cheers John :)
