Downstairs we have two cold water taps which are both working fine and at full pressure.

Upstairs there is the kitchen tap which has a feed off it for the dishwasher and a bathroom tap.

The water pressure upstairs seems to have dropped quite low over the last few weeks. The dishwasher seems to stop when filling and you cannot hear any water going in. If you turn on the kitchen cold tap for a minute or two, you can then hear the whooshing noise as the water starts to flow into the dishwasher again. The tap can then be turned off and the dishwasher fills normally.

Does anyone know what might be causing this & how best to fix it please?

Sounds akin to an air lock, which would be rather unlikely on the rising main.

Have you any had plumbing work done recently? Are there any valves which could be partially closed (or partially blocked)?

2 possibilities ........to add to Softus`...........1 the water board have reduced the mains pressure in the whole area....2 there`s a problem with your dishwasher water inlet solenoid valve
