I would be grateful for any feedback concerning anybody's experience of using Anglian Home Improvements to construct a block paving driveway. This will involve removing the pre-existing concrete, putting down a suitable sub-base and finishing off with brick sized blocks.

I appreciate that Anglian are a large company and will probably sub-contract the work out but generally, does Anglian provide a good level of customer support / service in the event of problems arising?

Thanks for responding.

Thanks for the reply freddymercurystwin.

I am now looking for smaller local firms to quote for the work and have found a number on the Trust Mark website that are also recommended by Marshall's building material's website.

Cheers.

Go for a wander around your local streets and find someone with a new driveway, give their door a knock and see if they would recommend their contractor?

Oh dear, frankly I wouldn't trust the Trust Mark website or take any notice of whether they are an approved installer either. Friends and family recommendations are by a million miles the best way to find a contractor. Maybe take a drive around and find some drives being installed and have a chat with the owners to see if they're happy. You may be surprised how something seemingly so simple can be bodged! Have a read through this to make sure your chosen contractors are gonna do it right: http://www.pavingexpert.com/blocks.htm

You are in Kent - I can thoroughly recommend a guy that did our drive @ last house - in Sussex - He was one of the Tarmac toppave contractors . His firm is in Hastings , so may cover your area.

Thank you all for responding, Nige F, SpecialK, freddymercurystwin,

I have done what you said. 4 driveways have been installed in nearby roads by the same one man firm. I spoke at length with the home owners and they said that were 100% happy with the man himself - courteous & reliable and they have had no problems with their driveways over the last 12 months since installation. They added that the final cost came in exactly as the quote. They said that he does the work himself and does not sub-contract the work out.

I telephoned the man and discussed my requirements. He said that the most important aspect of the job was creating a suitable sub-base and installation of a soakaway to comply with local authority requirements for blocked paved driveways. I have to wait 3 or 4 months for him as he is busy.

Thanks again.

That's a good sign; 'I have to wait 3 or 4 months for him as he is busy.'

Someone who is busy in this current climate must be very good. Looks like with a bit of work on your behalf , you have found your man. If all customers done what you have then it would put all the cowboys out of business.
