Hi, i know this has been asked time and time again, and i think i have read every post regarding this, but im still confused, im fitting a multifuel log burner, i have had the gas fire taken out and capped off, their is a liner already in place, although i dont know what liner it is, all i know is its 6 inch wide,
i cant work out if this is stainless steel (i think it is) is this going to be adequate how can it tell if its twin wall, people i speak to are saying as you had a gas fire their before it will be a gas liner, but who's to say the last owner didn't have the multifuel liner put in
any help would be great thank you :)

Multifuel flues cost 3 X more then gas flues , so it is extremely unlikely that one was installed for the sake of it.

yeah i can get a picture of it, my parents owned the house before and they have a gas fire put in but the previous owners had a coal fire i think and they were the ones but the flue in place i will get a picture and post it thank you

I was in the same position as you 3 years ago, trying to convince myself the old flue would be ok to save money. But when we had a new stainless steel liner fitted there's a massive difference and when the wood burner is going the flue and liner gets really hot we can feel heat coming through the chimney breast upstairs in the bedroom. So pay the money and be safe and don't worry you will get your money back on the gas you will save, my wood burner has saved us £500 per year on the heating bills, I do get my wood free.
