The tile battens are rotten, probably.It looks like the roof is dropping slightly, I am wondering if it's going rotten.
We have had birds in there if that makes any difference.

The problem area won't be visible from the inside. It'll be obscured by the gable masonry. In fact, all may look healthy on the inside, whilst the outside can be rotten as an old pair.There is an increasing gap, under the tiles on the right, approaching the gutter - which suggests it is the roof.
It might be worthwhile the OP trying to get a photo of that section of the roof, but from the inside, if he can access the tight space.
