Hello, around 2 weeks ago we had the old barge boards, which where rotten and full of holes replaced with new treated timber boards. Since then there has been noisy creaking and groaning from them. My partner thinks it's birds nesting, since there was many old birds nests inside the old boards but we can't find any evidence of nests or see any holes or gaps outside or inside the roof space. Could it be the new timber settling in? It has been very wet and windy recently. Does anybody have any ideas or suggestions as what these noises could be from and is it likely to stop?

Thanks for you help.

What material are the new barge boards?

What are they tied into - google rafter ladder pics etc.

What kind of undercloak and/or soffit do you have and was any work done on them?

The tile/slate laths are often nailed into the top edge of some barge boards. If the laths are de-nailed then they could be moving with the wind.

Thanks for your reply, it is with shame that I have to admit that the noises where from the old TV ariel cable bumping against the wood in the wind.
