As above, am due to start laying engineered wood floor in 2 bedrooms this week and was wondering if theres a technique to cutting out parts for pipes/round door frames etc with the jigsaw, I dont want to end up chipping a huge chunk out, or wont it happen?

Cutting around pipes.

Mark on the board the position where the centre of the pipe will finish, if it's a 15mm pipe you will need to drill a 19mm hole to allow for expansion of a hot pipe and contraction of the board. Place the board in its up to the pipe and mark the pipes outer edges on the board then draw to lines at 90 degrees to the hole. Cut this bit out an keep to onside, slide the board into place and put back the piece you cut out. You can buy circular hardwood discs which will cover the cut out you made.

Cutting under door linings.

Lay a piece of flooring face side down next to the door lining "make sure you have the underlay you are using under the board" with a panel saw on its side and using the board as a guide cut the door lining and architrave out so you have complete clearance to slide the board under the lining and architrave. However, you may not be going through the entire door opening so you will only need to cut the part of the lining which is equal to the half of the doors thickness out.

If you are using a jigsaw to cut the flooring and are cutting through the face of flooring you will need a cut down jigsaw blade and you'll need to change the pendulem setting on the jigsaw to off.

Good luck
