a friend of mine called me as his boiler is not working (main 24 he) seemed like a condense blockage so i talked him through cleaning the trap out which was filthy. now he says it works fine with the sensor wires disconnected but when he connects them it cuts out again (red light permanently on) anyone had this fault on the baxi, main, potterton boilers?

Call an RGI - the condensate trap is part of the flue system and shouldn't be worked on by unregistered persons

Deano, I'm afraid to say, as the condensate trap is considered part of the flue system, it should only be serviced by an RGI and shouldn't be a DIY job.

As that is the case and for the purpose of this forum, no-one will give out DIY gas information

ok guys, I am a RGI, but my friend is'nt. was just trying to save myself a trip out there. i have just never come across the sensor in one go faulty before

Sensor?? Where's that then??

Yea it happens a lot when the traps block/are cleaned out.

Join the combustion chamber and you'll get real answers. Can't give the info out in here because it can encourage DIY gas work. Which I'm sure as an rgi you wouldn't advocate ;)

Already entered my details for that one.. Just waiting for the powers to be to activate it.. But I'm kind of thinking washing the trap out has made it wet so it needs time or a hair dryer to dry it out.. I'm going out tomorrow to check it over

Just dry the top of the trap, has the same earth short as a promax.

If the trap was filthy then perhaps you should encourage him to have the boiler serviced properly every year.

The dirt contains oxides and hydroxides which will be more conductive than water and might be deliquescent too. So surface needs to be very carefully cleaned and then dried.

Remember that this is your work and you should be charging your normal rates even if he is your friend.

But you might go evenings or weekends at no enhancement for a friend.
