Hi all.

My fridge light stopped working a while ago and various bulbs have been fitted so I thought I'd take it to bits. As we do!

Anyway this green thing I've found could be the cause but before I chop it out and splice 2 wires together I was just wondering what is it?

There's 240vAC at the switch, the wire goes through this green thing, then there's about 2vAC at the bulb holder. But didn't want to get rid incase it's a step down or something safety.

Many thanks.

hi all

thanks for the replies. ive only just got back in.

I took the panel off that the light was attached too at the top of the fridge. The switch is the white terminal that one wire from this green thing goes to, the other wire from the green thing goes to the bulb holder. Theres 240v at the switch and the switch does operate correctly but theres only a couple of volts at the bulb holder. And as you can see from the pic, the only think in between those two is this green object.

The letters are a bit difficult to properly make out in the photos. Try punching them into google and see what it throws up.

15w bulbs but says 240v on it so I would expect there to be 240 at the bulb holder.

I've not con checked through it, don't know why I didn't think of that yesterday. I'll con check from switch to bulb holder and see what I get.

Why would a thermal fuse be there just to operate the fridge light? The fridge is a scandinova type:LFA 391 W

I've searched to try and find a wiring diagram but with no joy.

Many thanks for all your help

As Owain says and, where is this green component mounted in relation to the fridge door - that is, is there a chance it could be a reed switch operated by a magnet on the fridge door? Just a thought.

Regards

Certainly a thought, but there appears to be a separate, mechanical, switch, so I doubt that there would also be a reed switch...
