I tried today and it was a disaster. Apart from a dreadful neck ache every time I look up I see bits I have missed.

I am using a roller, but going round the edges with a brush. In my DIY book it says if you use a roller and it sprays paint all over you then you are doing it wrong, well I look like I have whitespot. so how the hell am I supposed to do it.

Advice please!

Simply extend your pole (you are using a pole yes ?) so that roller is well clear from you standing underneath. Load roller, and roll slowly but surely, dont go crazy at it or all you will get is a load of splatter, lay the paint on like your not paying for it i.e dont try to do it all with one dip in the paint. work carefully from a light source like a window and follow the glint of the wet paint, check each section before you move to next.

Happy rolling

thank you!

I do have a pole and another roller(or paintbrush) that I tape to a broom handle. I find it really difficult to control tho, I think I must be a bit weak!

Today I painted walls, and it looks really good ( deeply suprised since yesterday looked crap)

Do I really need to paint two coats?

This is why your gettin a stiff neck lol. By a pole I meant a telescopic pole with a point on the end that will go into the roller handle. Then you can adjust the pole length to your own comfort zone. Think b&q sel them but any decorators/builders merchant will have them. You dont need the professional type.

I normally go for 2 coats, gives a nice solid appearance, However if it looks ok and old colour is similar then one coat might go.
Depends what it looks like, Stand back, look for any shadowy/ missed area's, will motherinlaw be impressed? :) If not give it another coat
