Just had a call from my mum, the washing machine just stopped!

Quick find fuse blown, replaced and set on the program which it was on before, H mixed clothes.

Machine ran fine and completed wash.

2 days later mum called again, its stopped again, same story as above.

With the top off checked for obvious wire damage etc.

Started machine wash ‘H’ which is what she use’s after filling with water and tumbling the water for a couple of minutes, the programmer moved on, at that precise moment “ BANG” a flash emitted from either the pressure switch or the capacitor. Thinking there will be visual damage to indicate which is at fault, none found. Removed pressure switch blown down 3 switches change state as confirmed with fluke DM.

Now this machine is 10years old, never failed before and is so clean it’s unbelievable, not a water stain anywhere. My first thought to my mum was get a new machine this one don’t owe you a penny, then I thought I’ll give that forum DIYnot a go, as I found it really helpful sorting out my dishwasher.

So any thoughts on the cause/ rectification.

Cheers thanks for looking

capacitor would go bang so replace that and while u at it check for any earth faults

So the mains in capacitor can go bang, take out the fuse! replace fuse and it will work again?

it don't work like that on pcb boards i work on! once they go bang theres not much left.

thanks anyway will through a capictor at it.

checked for earth faults all seem good, however havent found the heater element yet, this was my first thought,

ie, fills with water, tumbles, control timer switches to heat water, leg off element to earth, and "bang goes the fuse"

very common years ago when I worked as a SERVIS field engineer

cheers, all comments welcome
